Reminder and March 5 Class Meeting
Reminder:
We will meet at Renaissance Gallery & Framing at 9:30 am on the next class meeting March 5th.
For those of you who missed class today Feb. 28, please do the following exercise and bring it to the March 5 class.
Pre-visualization Exercise for installation of artwork
1.How many works do you think you will exhibit?
2-D, 3-D, or Commination/Other
2. What is the scale
of each piece?
3. How do you
envision the layout of the components? Spacing? Draw this in a rough diagram.
4. Add up the lateral
length of each piece. This = what.
Caluculate between 12 and 20” as a lead in and out to the work / how
much space from the edge and corner of a wall.
Add this to the total of the lateral
sum of the works. Now subtract this
from the wall length. Divide by the number
of spaces between the works and you will find the amount of space between the
works.
Try this a couple of times with various layouts to
pre-visualize various installation possibilities. If you
missed class, please bring your results to the next class.

Beginnings
Welcome!
You will need a blog to fully participate in this class.
If you have a blog that you already use, you can send me an email with your name and the blog address. However, if you choose to do this, you will need to be sure entries related to the class are specific to the assignments (with no spill-over about family, friends, work, etc)
If you do not have a blog you will need to make one. I recommend Blogspot, because of the simplicity. You can also create in Wordpress, which gives you more options, but there is a larger learning curve. There are other platforms that are fine, just be sure you have something by next week.

This year, University of Maine at Augusta’s graduating art students are showcasing their final projects in an exhibition entitled “Incidental Consequences.” This is an accretion of 9 individual artistic styles and personalities. The show’s diverse contents are as follows: photographic works, a video installation, a graphic novel, ink drawings, mixed-media prints, and plush sewn creatures.
Artists included are: Adrienne Beacham of Augusta, Danielle DeWald Pease of Hampden, Sabrina Langway of Augusta, Jennifer Smith of Augusta, Tim Hofmann of Portland, Amanda Giampetro of Winthrop, Lisa Tiger of Waterville, Christina T. Epley of Hallowell, and Miguel Hidalgo of Waterville.
incidental (adj.) - being likely to ensue as a chance or minor consequence; occurring merely by chance or without intention or calculation.
consequence (noun) - something produced by a cause or necessarily following from a set of conditions.
incidental consequences (happening) - colliding of 9 emerging artists, resulting in the manifestation of a final, collective body of work.
“Incidental Consequences” marks the fall out of an epic journey towards this final exhibit, which is being held in the Danforth Gallery on the UMA campus. The opening reception will take place on May 11th, immediately following graduation ceremony.
